The Black Skirts' second album (released on July 13, Wednesday) [Don't You Worry Baby (I'm Only Swimming)] is the creator of Western-style Korean indie pop! Genius singer-songwriter The Black Skirts! The Black Skirts is a one-man band of Korean-American Jo Hyu-il, who immigrated to the U.S. and grew up there. Based on indie rock influenced by the U.S., he has blended Korean sentiment to pioneer a new genre and excited the public and critics with fresh music! After the release of the indie debut album [201] in November 2008, which sold over 20,000 copies and received the highest praise with 5 nominations at the Popular Music Awards, the eagerly awaited second album [Don't You Worry Baby (I`m Only Swimming)] is filled with tracks that surpass the first album. The sophomore jinx is just a meaningless term for The Black Skirts! Just give it a listen! The best album of 2011!

The first single "Love Shine" features his unique vocal style and delicate melody. The lyrics seem to symbolize a cosmopolitan life, and the enchanting atmosphere of the song creates a subtle masterpiece. This love song presents an excellent role model as an anti-thesis to the existing notion that only intense emotional overflow is the best. Here, it is necessary to reflect on the lyrics of "Love Shine" and the album's title together. The lyrics 'People who will abandon me tomorrow, I'm not worried. Tomorrow, I will be back across the sea, are you okay being left alone?' and the album title confessing 'Don't worry, I'm just swimming.' At this point, Jo Hyu-il's assertion that 'I met an important connection in Korea' is merely a superficial interpretation. However, it can be inferred that he has gained many insights through a lifestyle that traverses between the U.S. and Korea and is sending signals through his music towards something uncertain.

In the following track "Only Son," that inference transforms into a degree of certainty. This is undoubtedly a 'sharp satire on Korean society.' But how can one deliver lyrics like 'Suddenly, I have many brothers around me. I am an only son' with such a lively rhythm? One cannot help but praise that sharp sensibility. With the natural tempo change in the latter half and the parade of catchy words, it forms a peak of the album along with "Love Shine." The classic acoustic ballad "International Love Song" shifts the mood. This song, which repeats 'I Wanna Be With You' with only slight changes in the lyrics, is probably Jo Hyu-il's most romantic song. In addition, "Weather," which beautifully captures the driving feel with guitar riffs and electronic effects, "Breakfast," which creates a strange smile with a lyrical sound and cynical lyrics, "Woman Who Makes Music," and "Chivalry," among others, showcase peaks throughout the album. And then it connects. To paraphrase Spinoza's saying 'I dug wide to dig deep,' one might say 'He builds wide to build high.' Simply put, every track is uniformly excellent.

At the end of 2011, it is a 'candidate for album of the year' that will be discussed beyond modern rock in the entire Korean popular music scene. This album, which traverses various styles and even mixes in 'something Korean' learned in his homeland, grants synchronicity (共時性) to the first album's diachronicity (通時性), making it a new coordinate in The Black Skirts' musical world.
