ARTMS [Dall]
Five girls, determined by fate, have stood at a new starting line and named themselves ARTMS. Kim Lip, Jin Sol, and Choi Ri have successfully reactivated ODD EYE CIRCLE, releasing a new album [Version Up] and completing a North America and Europe tour, while HeeJin has sufficiently showcased Korean beauty with her solo album [K]. Additionally, Hasul successfully completed a four-day solo concert in Seoul, demonstrating her growth as a performance-oriented idol. Having completed their warm-up, ARTMS finally presents their first full album [Dall], capturing the blessings and paradoxes of love and life.
The intro track ‘url’ serves as a ritual to transition to the title track ‘Virtual Angel’. Just like how we must meet a URL to move anywhere on the internet. Starting with Kim Lip's narration, the rhythm that pours out dynamically encapsulates the album's essence.
The title track ‘Virtual Angel’ was created by EL CAPITXN and Vendors, who previously worked on tracks like ‘Generation’ and ‘Girls Never Die’ for the rookie group tripleS. Based on Y2K-inspired Euro dance, it builds a sacred vibe that could resonate in a cathedral, completing a dance song with a new feeling that has never been heard before.
With the advancement of AI and the existence of the virtual becoming a reality, this song questions whether the idols we have been consuming through TV and phones were not virtual all along. The feelings of love and romance toward idols may not be seen as real love from the perspective of others, but between idols and fans, those feelings may indeed be pure love. ARTMS sings that the emotions that arise beyond the screen can be real, not virtual.
Digipedi, who has built the worldview since the time of LOONA, directed the music video, capturing the story of ARTMS and their fans on film.
‘Sparkle’ expresses the spark of shining emotions through music. Just as we say sparks fly when we talk about love, how many fireworks will unfold in our love? The excitement is etched in the voices of the ARTMS members.
‘The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy’ was reserved as a title for ARTMS's next album, a song that was cherished enough to be included in their debut full album for its completeness. This song was gifted to the members by producer G-high, who created LOONA's representative song ‘Butterfly’, containing a beat that can be loved by both existing fans and new fans.
From ‘Flower Rhythm’ to ‘Candy Crush’ and ‘Air’, the pre-released songs were all completed by sampling HeeJin's solo songs ‘Bloom’ and ‘Algorithm’, Hasul's solo ‘Plastic Candy’, and ODD EYE CIRCLE's ‘Air Force One’. It signifies that each member's journey has come together to form one team, ARTMS.
‘Unf/Air’, following ‘Air’, sings about the asymmetry of love. Why is it that I love you, but you don't look at me? This unfairness is expressed in a calm and cute manner.
‘Distress’ unfortunately placed second in the ARTMS pre-release vote, but it was a highly complete song that was recorded as the first track during album preparation. The moment it was monitored in the first recording studio, this song already defined ARTMS's style.
‘Butterfly Effect’ tells the story of how the flapping of LOONA's ‘Butterfly’ became ARTMS. The genre itself can be said to be ‘Butterfly’, uniquely inheriting LOONA's musical style and legacy, taking flight with ARTMS's own wings.
The final track ‘Birth’ received overwhelming support from fans during the ARTMS pre-release gravity, becoming number one. And that ‘birth’ proves the existence of ARTMS. The already released music video has been evaluated as the most brutal and beautiful video in K-POP history, encapsulating the aesthetics of ARTMS.
Even before the album's release, ARTMS announced their world tour ‘Moonshot’, signaling the start of their grand journey here and now.
