On April 1, 2013, I saw a performance by the musician Ildu Kim. I was shocked by his songs, which seemed to perfectly reflect the landscapes of my heart that had never been revealed to anyone. Five days later, he was performing again in Jeju? I hastily booked a flight to Jeju.

On April 1, 2013, the concert held at the Hongdae café ‘A Cup of Lululala’ felt like an April Fool's joke. The concert was a celebration of Ildu Kim's new album , featuring fellow musicians such as Kim Mok-in, Kim Tae-chun, Park Hyung, Sai, Samgun, Seedless Watermelon Kim Dae-jung, Lee Rang, Ha Heon-jin, and Hwaegi-dong Short Stories singing Ildu Kim's songs in a performance called ‘Ildu Kim and Friends’. C saw Ildu Kim's performance for the first time that day and instantly became a fan.

On April 6, 2013, it rained heavily in Jeju. The café ‘Room 301, Building B’ I visited after leaving the airport was not very large, and the low darkness and humidity filled the room. After getting permission from Ildu Kim, who had finished rehearsing, C pressed the recording button on an iPhone 3S, placed it on the table in front of the stage, and settled in a corner of the café. Although I had listened to Ildu Kim's songs countless times over the past five days, the charm of live performance is something different. I felt that if I recorded it well, a day would come when I would listen to it again. The café quickly filled with people. I had thought the entrance fee was around 10,000 won, but it turned out to be 20,000 won. Ildu Kim, who had prepared for a one-hour performance, ended up singing for over two hours, even pulling out songs from his band Genius, which he was also working with at the time. That day, it was not beer or whiskey that intoxicated the people, but Ildu Kim's voice.

The live performance from that day was made into a fan project CD to support Ildu Kim's livelihood

《Ildu Kim Jeju 2013. 4. 6》 is a bootleg album released on CD after excluding 4 tracks with poor recording quality from the 27 live audio recordings that were kept. With the help of Samgun, a fan and musician of Ildu Kim, the review by Najamsu, also a fan and musician of Ildu Kim, and the design work by Lee Min-hwa, a fan and designer of Ildu Kim, it was released as a CD. The reason for compiling it into an album was due to Ildu Kim's [Job Seeking Concert] held in 2016. He claimed to be a ‘master of job seeking and a promising candidate for unemployment’, having worked at over 30 places including truck driving, beverage delivery, shipbuilding, and interior companies for 17 years to pursue music. Fans who wished for him to dedicate himself more to music came together to create this as a tribute to Ildu Kim.

Ildu Kim calls himself a ‘ballad singer’. Although he is a ballad singer, his voice in his early 30s still retains the spirit of a rocker who led punk rock bands like Mama Sun and Genius. His voice captured in this album flutters like freshly caught fish from a fishing boat in Busan Harbor, where he often strolls for exercise. The breath and cheers of the audience, the darkness and humidity of the performance venue, and the smell of a rainy day are vividly depicted as you listen to this album.

The performance at ‘Room 301, Building B’ in Jeju has now become a thing of the past, ten years ago. To commemorate the 10th anniversary, the live bootleg album 《Ildu Kim Jeju 2013. 4. 6》 will be reissued in a limited edition of 150 copies. Over the past 10 years, Ildu Kim has consistently and diligently created and sung songs. Although there were times when he worked at several places while balancing work and music, he now says he can sustain himself solely through music as long as he doesn't have big ambitions. For fans who have come to know the musician Ildu Kim in the last 10 years, this album will be a precious gift that allows them to experience Ildu Kim in his early 30s.
